"I have owned air-cooled VWs my entire driving “career” and have had many great (and not so great) mechanics over my history. There has been an ebb and flow to the VW hobby, and as these wonderful cars age, the people involved in them do too. Retirement, lack of interest, and even failure are common place as this marquee approaches its 64th birthday.

I had noticed in one of the free regional weeklies a few years ago an advertisement for a VW restoration shop and made a mental note. On a trip back from KC MO last year I took an incorrect exit and actually found Darryl’s shop!

Fast forward, after a less than successful (complete/enjoyable or productive) experience with another “restoration” shop, I dropped by to see if the shop was still there, and then shot a couple emails to Darryl’s website to arrange a visit. Upon arrival at the shop, I was immediately comfortable with the nostalgic ambiance. After meeting Darryl I was impressed with his patience and knowledge. Seeing his work, meeting his customers, and getting an extensive shop tour, I fully understood why he has these glowing testimonials.

The commitment to his shop, including the development of a future business model, and a web presence are signs of progression which is a scarcity in the hobby. Though we have not done any “business” yet I am sure there will be projects in the future. Next visit I plan to pass along some memorabilia and hope to meet Erv!"
